About terry

Born, educated and lived all my life in Tauranga. In eight years our family will have lived in the Tauranga area for one hundred years.Married to Robyn for 45 years with two children three grand children.
We have spent four of the past fifteen years travelling overseas to broaden our horizons

Most of my working life I have been self employed in agriculture and horticulture, farming in lower Pyes Pa and later developing one hundred and forty acres into kiwifruit. I set up and managed two horticultural companies, employed over 200 people and have been involved in property development for a number of years.I am a past president of Tauranga Fruit Growers.
I was chairman for eight years of the committee that drove the Greerton village redevelopment - an eight million dollar project. (It looks great in the spring when the blossom out, and works well. Some of the trees came from our property in lower Pyes Pa. Terry’s cherries.) I have played a major part in having the Greerton library built.I have worked closely with Greerton Main Street for twenty three years.

I have been a city councillor for six years.

I am a member of Greerton Lions and a past member of Greerton Night Owls. I am currently chairman of Bay of Plenty Coromandel Automobile association board.

I have had a big involvement in Tauranga sport playing and coaching rugby (Old Boys now Tauranga Sports Club and Otumoetai College 1st XV).

As a youngster I was involved in athletics, Tauranga Harriers, later triathlons, marathons and endurance events like Lake to Port, Speight’s Coast to Coast, and the Auckland Iron Man. I did some recreational flying and hang gliding and loved hunting. I have also cycled Tauranga to Te Anau and Adelaide to Darwin. Now it’s golf, a more gentlemanly but extremely frustrating game.

I have a fascination with and love reading history. The direction Tauranga is taking into the future is critical.

Our well being and success depends on adapting to change, managing the infrastructure, transport, managing rates, managing and supporting growth and treasuring our environment.
